At least two persons were arrested in Ceres for celebrating the New Year the illegal way by allegedly driving while intoxicated.

At 2:50 a.m. on Jan. 1, police stopped a car for speeding at Hatch and Mitchell roads. Driver Satwant Singh, 24, of Turlock, exhibited signs of intoxication and was given a breathalyzer test that showed a .09 blood alcohol content.

Singh was arrested and charged with one count of misdemeanor DUI.

Just five minutes after that car stop, Alvir Landeros, 25, of Modesto, was found at Blaker and Service roads passed out behind the wheel with the engine running. His breath registered a .11 BAC. Landerous was arrested on charges of misdemeanor DUI.
