Maria Verduzco, 40, of Ceres was arrested Tuesday afternoon, June 11, after someone reported her setting fire to her own clothing at the end of Dale Court east of Mitchell Road.

Sgt. Trenton Johnson and Officer Christian Izquierdo went to the scene at 2:25 p.m. and found Verduzco who threw down a blue lighter. She admitted to lighting the fire, stating it was her clothing that she had burned and that she does that from time to time.

Ceres firefighters arrived to extinguish what was left of the fire. Verduzco was arrested for arson and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
