After trying to pass two fraudulent checks, Vanessa Riojas, 33, of Modesto was arrested last week.

Money Mart on Hatch Road called Ceres Police at 3:44 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10, saying Riojas attempted to cash two bad checks for $909.30 from businesses in Modesto. An officer called both businesses and was told by the first that the check had been previously stolen in a burglary; the second business said Riojas had worked for them until January of this year. The second business was not sure how she obtained the check but they confirmed it was not valid.

Riojas was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
