A 47-year-old Modesto woman was arrested Tuesday evening, March 17 after she crashed her 2013 Volkswagen Passat into a utility pole at Mitchell and Fowler roads and fled on foot.

The crash was reported at 11:08 p.m. Police began checking the area for the driver after locating an employee ID card inside the car which was the same name as the registered owner, Katie Sandoval. A short time later, Officer Kyle Morris spotted her running from Smyrna Park towards the street Mockingbird. He caught up to Sandoval in the 2800 block of Mockingbird Drive where she attempted to hide in bushes.

The keys to the crashed care were in the woman’s purse. She appeared to be drunk so Officer Kevin Sakasegawa conducted a DUI investigation and arrested her on suspicion of DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.
