Woman arrested trying to pass stolen check

A 23-year-old San Ramon woman was arrested Monday afternoon, Jan. 15 for trying to cash a stolen personal check at the Money Mart on Hatch Road.

An employee called police at 2:46 p.m. who responded to the store and detained Stephanie Lynn David who tried to cash the check for $400.

She told police that the owner of the check was a family friend, and the money was a loan. The owner was contacted and stated he did not know David. Police determined the check was inside a purse stolen on Jan. 1stolen from a shopping cart at Cost Less Market on Yosemite Boulevard in Modesto, at which time a police report with the Modesto Police Department was made.

David was found to be on active probation for similar offenses. She was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for forgery with the intent to defraud and probation violation.
