A woman who attempted to pass a counterfeit travelers' check at the Home Depot store on Hatch Road got away from police on Saturday afternoon.

Store personnel called police at 3:08 p.m. to report that a black woman was at the counter trying to pass the fake check. The woman reported arrived at the store in a gray Nissan being driven by a black male. By the time officers arrived the suspects had taken off but the car was followed. The driver failed to stop when the officer turned on red lights and a chase was on going down westbound Hatch Road. The patrolman lost sight of the suspects near southbound Carpenter Road in south Modesto.
