Ceres Cop Car

A woman whose car was stolen from the El Rematio Flea Market on Crows Landing Road on Sunday not only spotted it parked but was able to get police to arrest the two men who allegedly stole it.

At 3:45 p.m. a woman called to report that she was on her way to the Ceres Police Department to report the car being stolen when she saw the 1991 Toyota Camry parked by apartments in the 3900 block of El Camino Avenue with two men standing by it.

Ceres Police Sgt. Darren Venn and Officer Freddie Ortiz drove to the apartments and found that the suspects were inside. Bystanders pointed out to the officers which apartment unit the men were in. When they asked the men to come out, they both climbed out a back window and were arrested by Ortiz.
Sergio Rios admitted stealing the car and was charged with auto theft and violation of probation.

Samuel Fernandez, 29, of Ceres, was arrested and charged with receipt of stolen property, and violation of probation.
