Council awards contract to make route to Blaker Kinser Jr. High safe
CitySeal

A $648,586 contract was issued last week by the Ceres City Council to local paving contractor George Reed Inc., to make student paths to Blaker Kinser Junior High School safer on the west side of Ceres.

The Safe Route to School (SRTS) project includes improvements to:

• Kinser Road, between Morgan Road and McCord Way;

• Blaker Road, from Heavenly Way to Pink Avenue;

• Hackett Road, from Buenaventura Drive to Morgan Road.

• ADA accessible sidewalks, curb ramps, raised crosswalks, striping, lighted crosswalk, overhead beacons and traffic signage.

Reed was the lowest of five bidders; the highest came in at $839,745.

This project is entirely funded by the Active Transportation Program (ATP) funds and no city General Fund money.

Reducing the standard 10 percent contingency to 7 percent allows for the replacement of a traffic loop while staying within the original project budget and eliminating the need for local funds to supplement the project.
