The body of a Hispanic woman was found floating in the Ceres Main Canal near Hughson Monday morning.

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s detectives were investigating the death to determine if she drowned or met with foul play, and trying to determine the woman’s identity.

The victim was described as an adult Hispanic woman possibly in her late 50s or 60s with short-cropped light brown hair.

The woman was discovered floating face-down in the water at 8:03 a.m.

Patrol deputies assisted firefighters and paramedics with recovering the body near Tully and Hatch roads.
