Mayor Chris Vierra has announced that he will deliver a “State of the City” address on Tuesday, April 2.

“I haven’t given one in a while and people have been asking,” said Vierra.

The event is set for 6 p.m. at the City Council Chambers at the Ceres Community Center, 2701 Fourth Street.

Vierra has given speeches similar to a “State of the City” during his appearance at the Ceres Chamber of Commerce’s annual Legislative Breakfast held at the Howard Training Center. But being placed at the end of a lineup of morning speakers that typically includes congressmen, state legislators and county supervisors has caused fewer people to stick around to listen. Setting aside a special event in the evening is intended to draw more members of the public.

The mayor will give an overview of the city operation, projects, infrastructure, planning and programs and discuss the city’s plans for future growth. He will likely highlight recent council efforts to hire additional public safety personnel mostly possible because of windfall revenues from developer agreements with three marijuana-related businesses.
