Ceres officials are advising the public to stay away from the illegal fireworks to celebrate the Fourth of July and go for the safe and sane variety that are being sold by area non-profit organizations.
It's illegal to possess or discharge anything that flies into the air - like bottle rockets - or explodes, such as firecrackers. They are illegal because of their potential to hurt people and start fires.
"The mere possession of these items, let alone setting them off, is a law violation that will be strictly enforced," said Art deWerk, director of Public Safety for the city of Ceres.
The city only allows fireworks to be sold within the city limits by non-profit organizations. The following organizations selling Phantom Fireworks this year and their booth locations are:
• Ceres Pathfinders (Cantilena Choir), with a stand at 1578 Whitmore Ave.
• Ceres Football Club at 2916 E. Whitmore Ave.
• Ceres Parent Club at 1768-78 Mitchell Rd.
• Ceres Youth Soccer at 3240 Mitchell Rd.
• CVHS Athletic Sports Boosters at 1611 E. Hatch Rd.
• Grace Community Church at 1354 Hatch Rd.
• Iglesia Apostolica at 2147 Pine Ave.
• Ceres Sizzle at 2362 E. Whitmore Ave.
• Valley View Church of Nazarene in the vacant lot adjacent to 1830 Hatch Rd.
• Village Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, in front of the church at 1825 Central Ave.
Groups that are selling TNT brand of fireworks and their booth locations are:
• American Legion Post #491 at 2531 E. Whitmore Ave.
• Central Valley Youth Services, 1305 Herndon Ave.
• Ceres Christian Church at 2420 Whitmore Ave.
• Ceres Cowboys Football at 1670 Mitchell Rd.
• Ceres Livestock at 3900 Morgan Rd.
• Dolphin Swim Club at 1650 E. Hatch Rd.
• First Pentecostal Church of God at 1850 E. Hatch Rd.
• St. Jude's Catholic Church at 3824 Mitchell Road.
• Tri County Smash at 2000 Central Ave.
