Hundreds of tires and an entire Crows Landing Road business went up in a large plume of black smoke Saturday afternoon in a large blaze that drew three agencies.

The 1:46 p.m. blaze broke out at Primo's Tire Shop at 4239 Crows Landing Road directly across the street from the Winco Foods warehouse.

"It burned the whole place," said retired Westport Fire chief Gary Thompson who was on hand. "It was a total loss."

The fire was contained to the tire shop.

Firefighters aboard two engines from Westport arrived and were assisted by Ceres and Mountain View fire departments. Crows Landing Road was closed off to traffic by the California Highway Patrol and Sheriff's deputies for several hours so that fire hydrants across the street could be accessed by firefighters.

Authorities were investigating the cause of the fire and no dollar value was estimated on the loss.
