To prepare for this year's Ceres Relay for Life event - scheduled for May 16 - Ceres is going purple. A "Purple Event" in downtown Ceres on Saturday, Jan. 17 when local businesses and downtown will be decorated with American Cancer's Relay For Life purple color. The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon.

Between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., the Ceres Relay For Life committee will host a gathering of vendors, music and other entertainment at downtown's Whitmore Park. Those who would like to participate with a booth (cost of $10 donation), may contact Pam Agnew at 345-6974 or Kandy Thornhill at 765-9943.

The event concludes at 5 p.m. with a lighting of luminarias to spell out the word "hope" in the park with a very short word of encouragement for those fighting cancer.

Anyone interesting in helping with any part of the event is encouraged to call Pam or Kandy.

The community is welcome to drop by the park from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for the Ceres Relay For Life fundraising faire where food, friends and vendors will gather to honor the fight against cancer.
