A rosary and funeral Mass were held Friday at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Ceres for Anton Frank Betschart, 83, of Ceres. He died Jan. 9, 2010 at his home with all the family at his side.

Burial was at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery in Modesto under the direction of Salas Brothers Funeral Service.

Born Jan. 2, 1927 in Tacoma Wash., Tony came to California as a teenager. He served in the Army from 1946 to 1947 with some service in Korea. He was a dairyman with registered holsteins and owned and operated Kay Hart Dairy in rural Ceres for 52 years. Mr. Betschart was a member of the San Joaquin Valley Swiss Club, Holstein Association, and St. Jude's Catholic Church.

He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Eda Mae Kaiser Betschart of Ceres; his children, Heidi Betschart, Tony Betschart, Ted Betschart, all of Modesto, and Frieda Ulrich of Corvallis, Ore.; and 11 grandchildren and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by parents Anton and Emma Betschart, sister Louise Betschart, half brother Art Brand and granddaughter Heidi Ulrich.
