A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel for Burle Edgar Reeves, 79, of Redding. The former local resident died March 25, 2005 at his home in Redding.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 31 at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the chapel.

Born July 24, 1925, Mr. Reeves was a native of Nebraska City, Neb., and lived in Modesto from 1978 to 2005. He was employed as a mail carrier for 20 years. Mr. Reeves served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946 abd was a member of the Ceres post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a member of Power House Church. Mr. Reeves enjoyed gardening, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren.

He leaves behind his wife, Bobbie Reeves of Redding; eight children, Brenda Cooksey of Ceres, Sharon Turnbull, Peggy Groves, Patty Forbus and Sheila Hunt, all of Turlock, Robyn Tyler of Redding, Nikki Reed of Ripon, and Kimberly Lipps of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; three stepchildren, Wilbur Layman of Denver, Colo., Phillip Layman of Soledad, and Keith Ashlock of Ceres; two children, Eva brown of Jamestown and Reba Crisp of Waterford; and 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
