A graveside service was held Thursday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Charles Allen Shaw, 80, of Ceres. He died Dec. 5, 2009.

The Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs was in charge of arrangements.

Charles was born Dec. 22, 1928 in Hume, Mo., to Mark and Evelyn Shaw. In 1949, Charles married Elsie M. Hopkins. He moved to California a few years later where he continued in the dairy farming business. From 1957 to 1990 Mr. Shaw was an independent owner/operator in the trucking industry. Charles lived in Empire for 35 years. In 1991, Charles and Elsie moved to Greeley Hill where they built their own home and enjoyed raising animals, a garden, and visiting grandchildren. In 2002 they decided to move to Alamosa, Colo. They ventured back to Ceres in March, 2009 to be closer to family and friends.

He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Elsie Shaw of Ceres; four children, Velinda Tackett, Vedina Beard, Venida Shaw, and C.W. Shaw; his brother, Francis Shaw; seven grandchildren, Tiffany, Ashlee, Bruce, Andy, Steven, Corey and Sydnee; and one great-grandchild, Charli.
