A funeral service was held Thursday at a family home near Ceres for Evelyn Hewes, 84, of Modesto. She died recently.

Private burial was at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery near Santa Nella under the direction of Allen Mortuary.

Born in December 1924 in Oakland to William and Anna Pearson, Evelyn was married to Leroy Hewes in 1946, in Carson City Nev. They resided in Alameda until moving to Empire in 1965, where they remained until moving to Ceres in 1973. They spent 54 wonderful years together, until his death.

Mrs. Hewes was faithful to her Lord, and enjoyed sharing his Word with family and friends. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Evelyn also had an appreciation for her family history & genealogy. She also greatly enjoyed cake decorating, gardening, and playing the accordion and organ.

She leaves behind five children, Evelyn Hewes of Ceres, Claudia Lopez of Salida, Eileen Brasuell of Modesto, Leroy Hewes of Modesto, Terry Hewes of Idaho; and 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grand children, two great-great-grandchildren.
