A funeral was held Monday at the Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs for Evelyn R. Howe, 81, of Ceres. She died Dec. 15, 2009 at her home.

Private burial was at Hills Ferry Cemetery.

Born July 3, 1928, Evelyn was a nurse at the former Modesto City Hospital in Modesto. She also worked for Dr. Reimke in Escalon. Evelyn retired from Blue Shield of California as a supervisor. She was a life member and past president of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxillary of Turlock. She also served as the Auxiliary's 13th District president and past State historian. She belonged to the Teamsters Union Retirees, AARP and the American Legion chapter in Ceres.

She leaves behind her husband, Kenneth Howe of Ceres; her sons, Frank Marksman of Galt and Jim Marksman of Salida; her stepsons, Dan Howe and Darrell Howe, both of Oregon and Sam Howe of Modesto; two sisters, Nadine Ghaner of Ceres, and JoAnn Haglund of Modesto; and five grandchildren, one step-grandson and three great-grandchildren.
