A 10 a.m. Thursday graveside service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park for Hettie "Marie" Bentley, 81, of Hughson. She died in the arms of her children on April 29, 2011 at English Oaks Convalescent Hospita in Modesto.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

Born Dec. 17, 1929 in Newark, Ark., the seventh of nine children of William and Lydia Dawson, Marie grew up on a cotton farm. She graduated from Newark High School as salutatorian and as a member of the girls' basketball team. She moved to California where she married Lawrence Bentley and formed a family of 10 - his five children and five of her own. They moved to the Coulterville area and did a lot of RV traveling. Following his passing in 1996, Marie moved to Hughson to be near her children. She became a member of the Turlock Senior Citizens and participated as a Pink Lady at Emanuel Medical Center.

She leaves behind her children, Margie Machado of Hughson, Ray Ridlon of Jamul, Larry Ridlon of Ceres, Cea Bentley of Lewisville, Texas, Rocky Bentley of Ceres, Lee Bentley of Jamestown, and Shirley Webb, Barbara Lomonico, Beverly Bentley and Jimmy Bentley, all of Visalia; her sisters, Dorothy Sears of Modesto and Margarette Babbitt of Florida; and 25 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Flowers are accepted however memorial contributions may also be sent to the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018.
