A memorial service was held Friday at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel for John Shanahan, 40, of Ceres. He died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005 when his cropdusting plane crashed shortly after takeoff at Firebaugh Municipal Airport.

Born Sept. 22, 1964, Mr. Shanahan was a native of Modesto and lived in Ceres all his life. He was a graduate of Ceres High School. Mr. Shanahan was a member of Free & Accepted Masons, California Aerial Applicators Association, Old Fisherman's Club, Newman Swamp Rats and Clampers Chapter 58. He enjoyed flying, motorcycles, camping and fishing.

He leaves behind two children, Simone Winter Shanahan and Hanna Summer Shanahan, both of Ceres; his mother, Rebecca Dahlke of Arizona; his father, Daniel Shanahan of Sebastopol; two brothers, Jim Dahlke and Bob Dahlke, both of Livermore; and sister, Dettre Schmidt of Los Angeles.
