A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs for Nellie Jane Henson, 92, of Modesto. The former longtime Ceres resident died Aug. 1, 2008 at Vintage Faire Convalescent Home in Modesto.

Bural will take place at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Born Sept. 5, 1915, Nellie was born to Levi and Sally Sunday. She went to school in Jay, Okla., and Wyndotte Indian School for Girls. In 1934 she married William Henson in Oklahoma. They moved to Ceres in 1939. Mrs. Henson enjoyed family gatherings where she cooked favorite foods raised in her garden and desserts including cobblers. Mrs. Henson enjoyed cooking her Indian tacos, with the red potatoes and green beans for the annual Indian Education potluck in Ceres operated by her daughter Lillie.

She leaves behind her children, Junior Henson, Maudie Lamb and Lillie Fiskin; her brother, Henry; and sister, Liza Sunday of Oklahoma; and 10 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by husband William Henson, son, Billie D. Henson, daughter Doris Fischer, brothers John and Jimmie Sunday, sister, Agnes Hair, and grandson Jared Fiskin.
