A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Ceres Chapel Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for Norbert F. Gariety, 83, of Ceres. He died Thursday, March 3, 2005 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Eaton Family Funeral & Cremation Service.

Born May 12, 1921, Mr. Gariety was a native of Russia, Ohio, and lived in Ceres for 25 years. He was a photographer for 55 years and a lab technician at Modesto Junior College 20 years. Mr. Gariety was a member of the Ceres 2nd Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II. Mr. Gariety enjoyed bowling and genealogy.

He leaves behind seven children, Michael Gariety of Modesto, Norbert Gariety Jr. of North Carolina, Matthew Egan of Brooklyn, N.Y., Arthur Gariety of Albuquerque, N.M., Patricia Dandeneau and Barbara Gariety, both of Florida, and Viva Stowell of New York City; two brothers, Adrian Gariety and Robert Gariety, both of Ohio; his sister, Virginia Drees of Ohio; and 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
