A funeral Mass was held Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chisholm, Minn., for Robert M. Fannell, 80, of Side Lake, Minn. He died Aug. 20, 2011 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minn.

Interment was ar Chisholm Cemetery under the direction of Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

Born Dec. 2, 1930 in Chisholm to Michael and Angeline (Berzovich) Fannell, Robert was a graduate of Chisholm High School in 1948. He was a Marine Corps veteran having served in the Korean War. After marrying Mary Ann Johnson on May 12, 1957, Robert moved to Ceres in 1962, where he had an independent car dealership and was a walnut and almond rancher. They returned to Side Lake in 2004. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. His lifelong love of cars was only surpassed by his love of his family.

He leaves behind his wife, Mary Ann Fannell of Side Lake, Minn.; his children, Larry Fannell of Ceres, Victoria Harrington of Littleton, Colo., Jeff Fannell of Raleigh, N.C., Karen Blades of Ceres, Tom Fannell of Virginia, Minn., and Paula Fannell of Buhl, Minn.; his grandchildren, Matthew Harrington, Alyssa Burton, Jacob Fannell, Jamie Fannell, Lynn Donahoe, Kelcie and Leann Blades, Cheyenne Jenkins and Robert Reece Fannell; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
