Funeral service were held on Monday at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Newman for Russell Leon Crawford, 65, of Ceres. He died Dec. 12, 2008 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.

Burial was at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.

Born May 28, 1943, Mr. Crawford was a native of Wynnewood, Okla., and grew up in Patterson. He was a Ceres resident for 35 years. Mr. Crawford was a self-employed general contractor. He was a Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War. Mr. Crawford was a member of Bethel Tabernacle Church. He enjoyed fishing and camping.

He leaves behind his wife, Barbara Crawford of Ceres; his children, Melissa Elness and Bryan Crawford, both of Ceres; his brother, Charles Crawford of Montana; five sisters, Charlene Coffer of Riverside, Matbelle Eastwood of Grayson, Metria Kilby of Fresno, Rene Pace of Modesto, Anne Rose of Ceres; and five grandchildren.
