Central Valley’s and Ceres High’s girls tennis teams opened the Western Athletic Conference part of their schedules this past week.

The Hawks extended their unbeaten streak versus WAC competition to 27 matches with a 9-0 victory over the Grace Davis Spartans on Wednesday in Modesto.

Central Valley compiled 14-0 and 12-0 records on its way to claiming back-to-back conference titles the past two seasons.

“It’s not something we think or talk about,” Hawks’ head coach Nimrat Chahal said.

Central Valley swept all six singles and three doubles matches versus Grace Davis.

“It’s a good win, especially the way we had to do it,” Chahal said. “We were missing three players that have been a part of both of our (WAC) championship teams.”

Serath Birring prevailed 7-5, 6-4 in No. 1 singles play.

Emily Carranza prevailed 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 singles play.

Yahiza Bustos prevailed 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in No. 3 singles play.

Samantha Sarabia Zavala prevailed 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 in No. 4 singles play.

Aaralyn Jauregui prevailed 6-1, 6-1 in No. 5 singles play.

Lizette Tafolla prevailed 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6 singles play.

Lauren Salvatera and Isabella Michelena prevailed 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles play.

Victoria Jaime Dominguez and Constanza Jaime Dominguez prevailed 6-4, 6-2 in No. 2 doubles play.

Karla Robles and Liliana Ochoa prevailed 6-1, 6-3 in No. 3 doubles play.

Ceres High suffered a 9-0 loss while playing host to Livingston on Wednesday.

“I didn’t feel like we were outclassed at any position,” Bulldogs’ head coach Jesse Apodaca said. “It came down to a few technique flaws. Their girls have more match time.”

Ceres High dropped six singles and three doubles matches against Livingston.

Xaimara Corona Mejia lost 6-1, 6-3 to Saniya Claire in No. 1 singles play.

Yuleyki Felix lost 6-2, 6-1 to Jazleen Torres in No. 2 singles play.

Cazandra Fregoso lost 6-3, 6-4 to Yossi Madrigal in No. 3 singles play.

Marixbel Castro lost 6-3, 6-4 to Joselyn Escalera in No. 4 singles play.

Amy Gonzalez lost 6-0, 6-1 to Zaira Rojas in No. 5 singles play.

Giselle Valdez Medina lost 6-1, 6-4 to Belen Correia in No. 6 singles play.

“The effort was there,” Apodaca said.

Michelle Salas Rodriguez and Kiara Gutierrez Ayala lost 6-0, 6-1 to Ramanpreet Saini and Janice Ybarra in No. 1 doubles play.

Trisha Riddhi and Brenda Diaz-Navarro lost 6-0, 6-0 to Diksha Rani and Pavneet Grewal in No. 2 doubles play.

Briseyda Erenas Rios and Marisol Gomez lost 6-2, 6-2 to Anahi Robles and Brianna Ayala in No. 3 doubles play.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Ceres High’s and Central Valley’s girls flag football teams wrapped up their preseason schedules.

The Bulldogs dropped to 2-6 overall after sustaining four losses in in a four-day span.

“We have a lot of players that are athletes,” Ceres High head coach Curtis Hulstine said. “We have to work on making them a team.”

The Bulldogs lost 54-0 at Hilmar on Sept. 1.

Ceres High compiled an 0-3 record at the Central Catholic Tournament, which was staged Aug. 29 in Modesto.

The Bulldogs lost 28-15 to Wilcox, 13-6 to Los Banos and 39-0 to Central Catholic.

The Hawks dropped to 1-8 overall after suffering three losses in four days.

Central Valley lost 32-21 at Modesto High on Thursday.

Central Valley lost 20-13 at El Capitan on Sept. 1.

Central Valley lost 31-6 to visiting Pitman on Aug. 31.

VOLLEYBALL

Central Valley’s girls volleyball team won one of three matches last week.

Ceres High dropped a pair of matches.

The Hawks fell to 1-5 on the year after losing 3-0 at West on Sept. 3.

Central Valley shut out Waterford 3-0 on Sept. 2 in Ceres.

Central Valley fell 3-0 while battling visiting Denair on Sept. 1.

The Bulldogs fell to 1-4 on the season following their 3-0 setback at Enochs on Sept. 1.

Ceres High put up a fight during its 3-1 loss to visiting Delhi on Aug. 31 at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.
