Could Ceres use another community garden?
Letter generic

Editor, Ceres Courier,

I live in Ceres and I’ve been looking into the possibility of starting a second community garden in our town.

A community garden would give more families a place to grow fresh vegetables, learn about gardening, and spend time outdoors. It could also bring neighbors together and make good use of land that might otherwise sit empty.

I’ve been in contact with the Ceres Garden Club and learned that starting a community garden isn’t as simple as finding an empty lot. There are challenges such as getting permission to use the land, providing water, insurance, funding, and finding enough volunteers to maintain it.

I also looked into a possible location at St. Jude’s, but the space was needed for parking. I’ve since reached out to other local churches and the city of Ceres to see whether there might be another suitable location.

I’m not suggesting that this would be an easy project, but I think it’s worth exploring. With support from local residents, businesses, and community organizations, another garden might be possible.

I’d like to hear what other Ceres residents think. Do you think there are enough people interested to make a second community garden work?

Octavio Preciado,

Ceres
