All-Star baseball game on tap

Central Valley's Greg Guerra and Ceres High's Dustin Baisdon and Matt Cardelli have been selected to play in the 21st Annual Stanislaus County All-Star Baseball Game this Saturday at John Thurman Field.

The trio will suit up for the East team in the large-school contest, slated to get underway at 7:05 p.m.

Dustin and Matt helped lead the Bulldogs to a fourth-place finish in the Valley Oak League standings (10-6).

Baisdon earned first-team, all-conference honors. He posted a 5-2 record with a 3.29 ERA, two complete games, one save and 49 strikeouts in 38 innings. Dustin batted .463 from the plate with one homer, one triple, three doubles, 11 RBIs, 25 runs and four stolen bases.

Cardelli was named to the VOL second team. He hit .396 with one homer, five doubles, 11 RBIs, 15 runs and four stolen bases.

Greg received second-team, all-league accolades for the sixth-place Hawks (7-9). He compiled a 4-3 record with a 3.20 ERA, one shutout, six complete games and 47 strikeouts. He batted .333 with one triple, five doubles, 12 RBIs, six runs and four stolen bases.

Guerra (P/3B, Sr.), Baisdon (OF/P, Jr.) and Cardelli (2B, Jr.) will team up with Beyer's Mason Ankeney, Garrett Roberts and Kyle Crawford, Downey's Cody Simer and Clay Welch, Enochs' Brian Dix, Matt Walsh and Nick Romero, and Oakdale's Brennon Williams, Tanner Combs and Joey Machado this weekend.

Matt Brown (Enochs) and Greg Moore (Downey) will be their coaches.

The West squad features players from Grace Davis, Johnasen, Modesto High, Turlock and Pitman.

Bulldog clinic

Ceres High School will hold its 21st Annual Basketball Camp, June 7-18, at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

Three sessions will be offered.

The session for ninth through 12th grade girls will run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The session for fourth through eighth graders will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The afternoon session for boys entering grades 9-12 will run from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Cost is $70 for two weeks of instruction or $50 for one.
