Ceres High School's varsity girls basketball team extended its unbeaten streak to three games last week.

Freshman Nicole Bates, senior Bryce Ford and sophomore Ryleigh Honberger propelled the Bulldogs to a 42-37 win over Sierra in non-conference play on Dec. 17 in Manteca.

"That's probably the best we've played all year," Ceres High head coach Vanessa Morris said. "That was nice to see. We worked together as a team. We're starting to hit our stride."

Bates had a game-high 18 points for the Bulldogs, who improved to 4-3 on the year.

Ford tallied 14 points.

Honberger collected a season-high 10 points.

Celine Barber scored a team-high 14 points for the Timberwolves (3-6).

Ceres High managed to keep the game close in the second and third quarters despite playing shorthanded.

Ford picked up three fouls and was relegated to the bench for eight minutes.

"Bryce didn't get down on herself," Morris said. "She cheered her team on. Everybody stepped up in her absence."

Ceres High trailed 28-24 at the end of the third quarter.

The Bulldogs outscored the Timberwolves 18-9 in the final period.

"It's a great win," Morris said. "When you work hard, good things happen."

Ceres High will play its final preseason game Thursday night.

The Bulldogs and Sonora Wildcats will battle in Ceres at 7.
