Ceres High School's varsity baseball team dropped a home-and-away series to reigning Valley Oak League champion Oakdale last week.

The Bulldogs (2-4) didn't go down without a fight.

"We had our opportunities," head coach Bret Durossette said.

On Tuesday, March 30 at Art McRae Field, Ceres High's comeback attempt fell short in a 6-5 loss to the Mustangs.

The Bulldogs scored five times in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Ceres High left three runners on base in the final inning.

"We responded but not enough to win the game," Durossette said.

The Bulldogs had more errors (four) than hits (three) during the contest.

Brent Ward doubled, drove in two runs and scored once.

Nick Welsh batted 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run.

Matt Cardelli had a single and a run.

Dustin Baisdon added a run.

Baisdon also pitched against Oakdale. He gave up four runs (three earned) and five hits with five strikeouts and five walks in 31/3 innings.

The Bulldogs lost 4-2 to the Mustangs on Thursday at Oakdale High School.

"He (Tyler Cummings) pitched well enough to win but we didn't score enough runs," Durossette said.

Ceres High will play against Weston Ranch on April 13 (road) and 15 (home). Both games begin at 4 p.m.
