SOFTBALL

Nicole “Sis” Bates made ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays of the Day for the third time during her professional softball career.

The 2016 Ceres High School grad/Athletes Unlimited standout shortstop earned the No. 8 spot on Saturday’s list after making an unbelievable diving catch during Team McCleney’s 2-1 win over Team Chidester at Parkway Banks Sports Complex in Rosemont, Ill.

“When you play for 20 years, your body does some crazy stuff sometimes,” Bates said while breaking down her defensive play in a video uploaded on the Athletes Unlimited YouTube channel.

Bates had two putouts, two assists and one double play against Team Chidester.

She batted 1-for-3 from the plate on offense.

Bates made SportsCenter’s Top 10 list twice during the Athletes Unlimited’s 2022 condensed season, staged June 13-26, at San Diego State University Stadium.

She was also named GEICO Defensive MVP.

Bates was one of 12 players selected in the 2021 Athletes Unlimited Softball College Draft.

She finished ninth in the individual standings her rookie year.

She batted .326 with five doubles, one triple, one RBI, six runs, one walk and one stolen base while starting all 15 games.

Bates starred on Ceres High’s softball team for four seasons prior to enjoying a record-breaking career at the University of Washington (2017-21).
