Cade Cowell has been selected to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Week.

The 18-year-old Ceres native/San Jose Earthquakes forward tallied the game-tying goal during Saturday’s 2-2 draw against visiting Austin FC at PayPal Park.

This marks the fourth time Cowell has been named to the Team of the Week during his MLS career.

Cowell helped San Jose battle back from a 2-0 deficit this past weekend.

He scored from close-range with his left foot in the 72nd minute.

Cowell collected his first goal of the season and seventh of his career.

“The only expectation is to be better than last year,” Cowell said leading up to the 2022 MLS regular season. “I want to improve each year and continue to be in a larger role within the club. If I perform well, that will happen on its own.”

Cowell signed a contract extension on Feb. 11 with the San Jose Earthquakes.

“It’s definitely nice to be rewarded for my hard work and be at a place where I feel at home,” he said.

Financial terms for the deal which runs through the 2025 MLS season with a club option for 2026 were not disclosed.

Cowell had five goals and six assists, both career-highs, during his third year with San Jose this past season.

He ranked second on the team in both statistical categories.

Cowell was named the Earthquakes’ 2021 Young Player of the Year.

He recorded career-highs in appearances (33), starts (14), minutes (1,664) and shots (42), earning a selection to the 2021 MLS All-Star Team.
