Coaches from the Modesto Metro Conference honored more than 40 water polo players, including eight from Ceres High, at Johansen High School on Nov. 3.
"Each coach gets to nominate players from their own teams," said Ceres coach Sonja Raynes. "But you can't vote for your own players."
Boys
Ceres had five all-league selections.
Eric Scudder, Joey Rossi, Mike Polovin, Markus Richter and Kyle Fliflet were rewarded for leading the Bulldogs to a first-place finish in the MMC. Ceres and Beyer shared the league title.
"Team ball was their forte," Raynes said.
Scudder and Rossi earned first-team, all-league honors.
"He (Scudder) was considered for MVP along with Beyer's Tommy Hunter and Modesto High's Daniel Chin," Raynes said.
Hunter was named Most Valuable Player.
Raynes thought Scudder and Hunter should have shared the award.
"We actually kicked it (the idea) around and some of the other coaches didn't agree," Raynes said.
Rossi was Ceres' top scorer.
He scored against every team in league. He had 13 goals in three games against Beyer. He tallied seven goals during the Bulldogs' 10-8 win over the Patriots in Ceres on Oct. 21.
Polovin and Richter earned second-team, all-league honors.
Fliflet was an honorable-mention selection.
Girls
The Bulldogs had three all-MMC selections.
Lauren Griffin, Katie Griffith and Amanda Arrollo were rewarded for leading Ceres High to its best win-loss record in school history.
The Bulldogs finished fourth in the MMC with a 6-9 record and would have advanced to the playoffs for the first-time ever if they won their final regular season game.
Griffin earned first-team, all-league honors.
Griffith earned second-team, all-league honors.
Arrollo was an honorable-mention selection.
