Green edges Maroon in Central Valley intersquad scrimmage

Central Valley High School's wrestling program staged its Green & Maroon Challenge on Thursday in Ceres.

The Green squad stormed back for a 44-42 victory.

"Our new kids showed a lot of heart," Central Valley senior grappler Anthony Centeno said.

The Green won nine of 16 matches, including the final three.

Centeno secured the team victory.

The Green team faced a 42-40 deficit heading into the 160-pound finale.

Anthony won by major decision, 16-4, over practice partner Rick Brown.

"Our coach made it the last match of the night because we both work hard at practice," Centeno said. "He has a lot of heart too. It was a good match. He pushed me hard."

Added Beckhart: "I separated them on purpose to make it competitive."

Josue Hernandez won by decision (3-1) over Cristian Garcia at 152 pounds.

Salvador Huerta won by pin (0:38) over Rafael Rivas at 160 pounds.

Jordan Sales won by decision (8-1) over Jose Cervantes at 220 pounds.

Adrian Vizcaino won by pin (2:21) over Cristian Maldonado at 182 pounds.

Malynda Lomeli won by pin (0:17) over Gabby Hernandez at 145 pounds.

Raul Godinez won by major decision (15-7) over Abel Garcia at 126 pounds.

Rose Moore won by pin (5:40) over Aaron Page at 120 pounds.

Michael Manzur won by pin (1:00) over Kevin Martinez at 113 pounds.

Cesar Yepiz lost by pin (0:45) to Marcus Rodriguez at 275 pounds.

Cristian Acatitla lost by pin (1:31) to Matthew Smith at 195 pounds.

Jorge Canales lost by pin (5:02) to Joaquin Garcia at 170 pounds.

Edward Nunez lost by pin (3:52) to Francisco Valdez at 152 pounds.

Luis Torres lost by pin (3:21) to Luis Torres at 145 pounds.

Lexy Cordova lost by pin (1:13) to Louis Gonzales at 132 pounds.

Andrea Rodriguez lost by pin (3:07) to Isaiah Gonzales at 106 pounds.

"This means something to the kids because they've been working for it the last few weeks," Beckhart said. "I'm very happy. We got a lot of depth."
