Central Valley High School's varsity boys soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to five games with a 4-0 victory over Sonora on Thursday in Ceres.

"We could have played a little better," left midfielder Abimael Galindo said.

The third-place Hawks improved to 5-3-1 in the Valley Oak League standings.

The fifth-place Wildcats dropped to 4-6 in conference play.

The top three programs in the eight-team league advance to the postseason.

"We know what we have to do in order to make playoffs," Galindo said. "Any slip-ups could cost us."

Marco Rodriguez had two goals and one assist. Juan Pacheco and Jesus Larios both scored once. Pedro Gomez contributed an assist.

Diego Zepeda, Marvin Lopez and Ricardo Reynoso starred on defense.

Goalkeeper Eddy Salinas made six saves.

Central Valley built a 2-0 lead in the first half.

Pacheco scored off a rebound in the 18th minute following Galindo's long throw-in into the box from the left side.

Rodriguez finished from close-range with his right foot in the 27th minute. Galindo delivered the cross pass.

The Hawks tallied their third goal 11 minutes into the second half. Larios blasted a 25-yard shot over Sonora goalkeeper Zach Holzer's head. Rodriguez assisted.
