Central Valley's and Buhach Colony's varsity girls basketball programs played for a good cause this past week.

The Hawks won the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Foundation showdown, 42-36, on Monday, Nov. 28 in Ceres.

The game does not count towards team standings. Foundation contests raise money for the section's scholarship program and Women in Sports Conference.

Brittany Martinez paced Central Valley with 13 points.

Penny Chanthavong, Mia Lorenzo and Catrina Castillo all scored two points.

The Hawks built a double-digit lead (27-16) in the opening half.

The Thunder swayed the momentum with a 14-4 run in the third quarter. Brittany Martinez's putback gave Central Valley a 31-30 lead heading into the final period.

Lorenzo played a major role as the Hawks outscored Buhach Colony 7-2 in the closing five minutes. She assisted on Central Valley's last three baskets.

Carmona converted a layup.

Brittany Martinez finished inside the paint twice. She also made one foul shot.
