Ceres High splits with Hilmar in baseball

Idle in Western Athletic Conference play this past week, Ceres High’s varsity baseball team faced Hilmar twice in non-league action.

The Bulldogs secured a split and moved to 10-10-0 on the year.

Ceres High won the first meeting, 12-4, on April 19 at Art McRae Field.

Bulldog pitcher Ricky Lopez (2-2) surrendered three runs, scattered eight hits, struck out eight and walked one in six innings.

Lopez also accounted for one of Ceres High’s 13 hits on offense.

Ricky collected one single, three RBIs and one run.

Freshman Brock DeWitt batted 3-for-4 from the plate with two RBIs and three runs.

Ismael Ontiveros batted 1-for-2 with one double, two RBIs and two runs.

Adrian Lujan batted 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Austin Schmidt batted 1-for-3 with two runs.

Austin Kubala batted 2-for-4 with one run.

Blane Abeyta plated one run.

Zach Kommavong scored once.

Eric Davis, Haaydn Martinez and Damion Reyes all singled.

The Bulldogs made just one error on defense.

Host Hilmar exacted revenge on Thursday, rallying for an 11-10 victory.

The Yellowjackets scored six runs in the final inning.

Ceres High lost despite totaling 11 hits, five more than Hilmar.

The Bulldogs committed four errors.

Schmidt had a standout game with his bat, finishing 3-for-3 with one double, three RBIs and two runs.

Ontiveros batted 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run.

Davis batted 1-for-2 with one RBI and two runs.

Abeyta batted 2-for-5 with one double, one RBI and one run.

Lujan batted 1-for-4 with one double, one RBI and one run.

DeWitt batted 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run.

Nick Jones batted 1-for-4 with one double and two runs.

Damion Reyes batted 1-for-3 with one RBI.
