The Ceres Dolphins recreational swim team opened the 2013 season with a fifth-place showing at the Tracy Invitational.

The Dolphins racked up 5861/2 points at the seven-team event, staged May 25-26, at West High School in Tracy.

The Turlock Seadogs (1,0551/2), Ripon Sea Lions (1,005), Manteca Dolphins (947), Tracy Tritons (685), Oakdale Gators (88) and Blue Tide Aquatics-Summer Tide (83) finished first, second, third, fourth, sixth and seventh, respectively.

Ceres' Zachary Jones (17-18 boys) and Julia Pata (13-14 girls) were High-Point winners in their respective age groups.

Jones shattered a meet record in the 100 freestyle. Zachary completed the event in 49.17 seconds. The old record (50.0) stood for 38 years.

"Wow," head coach Tracy Bull said. "That was a big eye opener. The previous record was set the same year Jaws came out."
