Ceres High School's varsity baseball team remained unbeaten in Western Athletic Conference play last week.

The Bulldogs improved to 4-0 after collecting a pair of wins versus Patterson.

Ceres High shut out Patterson 2-0 on Thursday at Art McRae Field.

The victory kept the Bulldogs (11-2-1) in a first-place tie atop the WAC standings with Central Catholic. The Tigers dropped to 1-3 in league.

Ceres High pitchers Brad Bussard and Brandon Arevalos combined to shut out Patterson.

Bussard had another solid outing, giving up no runs and five hits with 10 strikeouts in six innings.

Brad limited opposing batters to a .200 average.

Brandon tossed one scoreless inning of relief while picking up the save. He had one strikeout.

Ceres High collected nine hits on its way to posting a .360 batting average.

Jimbo Pernetti finished 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Brent Bussard finished 2-for-3 with one double.

Brad Bussard finished 2-for-3 with one run.

Arevalos singled and scored once.

Alan Marquez singled.

The Bulldogs scored one run in both the second and fifth innings.

Haydon Turpin allowed just one earned run, surrendered three hits and struck out 12 during Ceres High's 7-2 win at Patterson on March 26.

The Bulldogs hit .416 (13-for-32) as a team.

Brent Bussard batted 2-for-4 with one double and three RBIs.

Arevalos batted 3-for-4 with one double and three runs.

Brandon Machado batted 1-for-2 with one double and two RBIs.

Brad Bussard batted 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Marquez batted 1-for-4 with one double and one run.

Devon Ruger batted 1-for-3 with one run.

Joey Carrillo had one RBI.

Pernetti singled twice.

Jimmy Bates singled.

Tied at 2-all, Ceres High pulled away by scoring three runs in the sixth inning and two in the seventh.

Hawks sweep Panthers
Central Valley High School's varsity baseball team earned a two-game sweep of non-conference opponent Modesto High last week.

The Hawks improved to 10-3 on the year.

Ruben Casas threw a no-hitter during Central Valley's 4-0 win over the host Panthers on March 26.

Casas struck out 13 and walked six in seven innings.

Ruben batted 1-for-3 from the plate with one RBI and one stolen base.

Michael Ereso, Jeff Reeves, Jorge Alvarez, Michael Collins and Angel Gonzales also contributed.

Ereso collected four singles, two runs and one stolen base.

Reeves batted 2-for-4 with one double, one RBI and one run.

Alvarez scored one run.

Collins doubled.

Gonzales singled.

The Hawks led 2-0 at the end of the top of the fourth inning.

Central Valley added two runs in the seventh inning.

Ereso tallied eight strikeouts while pitching six shutout innings and finished 2-for-4 on offense with one double and two runs in the Hawks' 8-2 triumph over Modesto High on Thursday.

Michael gave up no runs and just two hits.

Central Valley batted .419 from the plate as a team.

The Hawks totaled 13 hits.

Central Valley scored three runs in the fourth inning, two in the first, and one in the second, fifth and sixth.

Casas had two triples, five RBIs and one run.

Raul Godinez chipped in with four runs and two singles.

Alvarez finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Collins finished 2-for-3 with one run.

Isaiah Gonzales finished 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Abraham Navarro doubled.

Sidney Long singled.
