The Ceres High volleyball team didn't defeat Golden Valley but did improve from start to finish in losing 25-12, 25-16, 25-3 to the Cougars in Merced Wednesday night.

"They showed a spark in the third game but not enough to create a flame," said Ceres coach Sue Garcia.

Krystle Brown had seven kills and one ace, Elisha Ferguson had 15 assists and 11 digs, Meghan Franksen had seven digs and Jennifer Arnold had two blocks and one ace for the Bulldogs (1-5). Brown and Arnold were both 12-for-13 serving.

Nicole Sandino, Sarah Tacke, Kelly Leonardo, Ashely Livesay and Brittney Hellner led the way for the Cougars.

Sandino had 11 kills. Sandino dished out 21 assists. Leonardo had four blocks. Livesay had nine digs. Brittney Hellner had three aces.

"They always have a lot of talent," Garcia said.
