Central Valley High School's varsity girls basketball program struggled while losing to Pitman and Weston Ranch during Modesto Junior College summer-league play on Monday, June 20.

"We just got outhustled," Hawks head coach Jesse Padilla said.

Central Valley lost 53-40 to Pitman.

Sophomore Mia Lorenzo led Central Valley with 13 points.

Diana Carmona added 12 points.

Vivien Fermil and Melinda Camarillo both scored four points.

Valerie Olide and Vanessa Dias had three and two points, respectively.

The Hawks trailed by just one point, 18-17, at intermission.

The Pride took control with a 16-6 run.

Central Valley suffered an 11-point loss while playing Weston Ranch.

"I think we would have beat both teams if we ran our plays right," Lorenzo said. "We need to practice a lot more. We also need to get in better shape."

Added Padilla: "We still haven't gelled yet."

The Hawks graduated three starters, including Myra Naranjo, Alyssa Long and Eva Noorzai.

Lorenzo, Carmona and Fermil will be a part of Central Valley's three-guard rotation during the 2011-12 regular season.

Diana and Vivien helped lead the Hawks to their first-ever league title and playoff appearance this past year.

Mia starred on the JV squad, which posted a 22-2 overall record and finished in a tie for first place in the WAC standings (11-1).

"I need to step up my game and get more aggressive," Lorenzo said.
