Central Valley High School's football team made its summer seven-on-seven passing league debut against Beyer and Hughson on Thursday, June 17 in Ceres.

The Hawks more than held their own versus the Patriots and Huskies.

"You guys should be proud of yourselves," head coach Tim Garcia stated to his players after the two-hour long competition.

Hawk quarterback Abraham Navarro finished 24-for-48 with one touchdown and one interception.

He completed passes to eight difference players, including Greg Tripp (seven receptions), Tyree Jones (five), Terrence Sadler (four), Sterling Shaw (three), JaQuan Gardner (two), James Jackson (one), Jamal Wessinger (one) and Anthony Centeno (one).

Navarro's first completion was a 40-yard TD strike to Jones.

Beyer and Hughson completed a combined 19 of 50 passes with five touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Tripp led the Hawks' defense with three picks. Wessinger tallied two. Shaw, Brandon Viado and Casey Ashlock all had one.

"I didn't think we were going to do that well," Navarro said. "He (Tripp) impressed me. He's gotten a lot better."
