Flores brothers dominate competition
Damon and Damian Louis
The Flores brothers, Damon and Damian Louis, brought home championship belts from the 2019 Silver Gloves Central California Association District Championships on Nov. 9 in Salinas.

The Flores brothers, Damian Louis and Damon, both experienced success as they brought home titles from the 2019 Silver Gloves Central California Association District Championships.

Damian Louis, an eighth-grade student at John B. Allard Tactical Charter Academy in Ceres, accomplished a first in his career by claiming the Intermediate 13-14-year-old 106-pound belt on Nov. 9 at Rock Boxing Gym in Salinas.

He won by unanimous decision.

“The other kid couldn’t even hit him,” said Damian Flores, Damian Louis’ father and trainer. “He was too slick. That’s his nickname.”

“He’s made a drastic change since he’s been at the military school,” the elder Flores added. “He’s more disciplined. His work ethic is different. He’s taking everything serious now. He’s done a complete 180.”

Damon, a third-grade student at La Rosa Elementary School in Ceres, claimed the 9-to-10-year-old, 70-pound pee-wee class belt with a unanimous-decision victory.

“He put on a show,” Damian Flores said. “He dominated.”

Damon improved his overall record to 15-1.

He also placed first at the 2018 Silvers Gloves CCA District Tournament.

“He hadn’t fought since July when he won the Jr. Olympics,” Damian Flores said. “He had a few weeks off from football to heal his body up. It made a big difference. He was throwing more punches. His movement was better.”

The Flores brothers will compete at the Silver Gloves State Championships, Nov. 29-Dec. 1, in Compton.
