More than 200 youth grapplers attend Ceres Pups wrestling tournament

Jorden Devine placed second while competing in the 10-and-under boys 111-119-pound weight bracket of the Ceres Pups Wrestling Club league tournament on Jan. 23 at Ceres High.

The Ceres Pups Wrestling Club hosted a San Joaquin Wrestling Association league tournament on Jan. 23 at Ceres High School.

A total of 205 youth grapplers attended the USA wrestling-sanctioned event.

The Pups Cheerleading Team entertained the crowd at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

Ceres had 21 wrestlers place in the top 5 in their respective weight brackets.

“It went so smooth,” said Steve Festa, club founder. “All of our kids did well. They gave it their all. They got some good experience. They had fun.”

Tanner Brister placed first in the 12-and-under boys 145-147-pound division.

Gabriel Flores placed first in the 12-and-under boys 62-67-pound division.

Tamali’i O’Brien placed first in the 10-and-under boys 71-76-pound division.

Jasiah Garcia placed first in the 8-and-under boys 94-95-pound division.

Landon Ormonde placed second in the 12-and-under boys 61-67-pound division.

Jorden Devine placed second in the 10-and-under boys 111-119-pound division.

Zurrick Jepson placed second in the 10-and-under boys 51-58-pound division.

Eddie Purkis V placed second in the 10-and-under boys 53-56-pound division.

Dorian King placed third in the 14-and-under boys 189-199-pound division.

Parker Borges placed third in the 14-and-under boys 122-135-pound division.

Chase Borges placed third in the 14-and-under 94-105-pound division.

Jaiden Cabrera placed third in the 12-and-under boys 145-147-pound division.

Miguel Barajas placed third in the 12-and-under boys 87-90-pound division.

Eleazar Cabrera placed third in the 10-and-under boys 111-119-pound division.

Broden Bradley placed third in 8-and-under boys 64-75-pound division

Zyanya Archuleta placed third in the 8-and-under girls 57-62-pound division.

Dominic Borges placed third in the 8-and-under boys 50-53-pound division.

Matthew Stephenson placed fourth in the 12-and-under boys 74-81-pound division.

Julien Garcia placed fourth in the 10-and-under boys 93-113-pound division.

Joseph Estrada placed fourth in the 12-and-under boys 87-90-pound division.

Bayden Bradley placed fifth in the 10-and-under boys 79-83-pound division.

The Ceres Pups Wrestling Club was founded by Festa in 2015.

The Pups have 66 members, including 45 wrestlers and 21 cheerleaders, this season.

Wrestlers are coached by Adam Borges, Tony Ormande, John Alba, Brian Borges, Austin Moore and Mark Kungas.

Cheerleaders are coached by Melissa Ruger, Ana Garibay, Lucy Garibay and Cameo Borges.

“We’re keeping the kids active,” Festa said. “We’re preparing them for the next level.”
