The Ceres Sizzle 10-and-under travel softball squad brought home a team trophy and individual medals from the NSA Halloween Classic this past month in Turlock.

The Sizzle won four of five games on their way to a second-place finish.

“Of course, you always want to take first. We just fell short. It’s still a positive. We have a young team.”

“Of course, you always want to take first,” coach Nicole Ferrel said. “We just fell short. It’s still a positive. We have a young team.”

Top-seeded Ceres lost 6-3 to the second-seeded CenCal Angels in the championship game on Oct. 28.

“We didn’t hit as well as we should have,” Ferrel said. “We stranded two runners on base in the final inning.”

The Sizzle defeated the Legends 7-2 in the semifinals on Oct. 28.

Ceres was awarded the No. 1 seed for the tournament after topping the Legends (8-1), Gamechangers (12-4) and Manteca Wave (10-0) on Oct. 27.

“Everyone did a good job hitting and getting on base,” Ferrel said. “We had a lot of strikeouts from our pitchers.”

The Sizzle placed in three of five tournaments this fall.

Ceres claimed the Elk Grove Scholarship Tournament title.

The Sizzle took second at the Halloween Classic and Think Pink Cancer Awareness event.

“The 11 girls we have on the team love the sport,” Ferrel said. “Every single one of them improved their skill level and knowledge of the game. I’m really proud of them.”
