An Atwater man who had a warrant for his arrest decided to try his odds by outrunning a Ceres Police officer who initiated a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation Saturday evening and was arrested after wrecking his Jeep Cherokee.

At 11:06 p.m., Officer Matt Vierra attempted to stop Michael Reyna, 42, after seeing an illegal maneuver in the area of Richland Avenue and Hatch Road. Reyna refused to pull over and led the officer on a chase through Ceres before entering southbound Highway 99. Reyna got off the freeway and headed westbound where a solo crash awaited him in the area of Grayson and Crows Landing roads. Reyna was not injured and was taken into custody. A records check revealed Reyna had the arrest warrant. He also racked up new charges of driving on a suspended license and felony evading a police officer in a vehicle.
