Ceres police arrests Empire man accused of shooting

A traffic stop made by Ceres Police at Park and Ninth streets on Tuesday, July 23 netted the arrest of an Empire man who is charged with committing a drive-by shooting in downtown Modesto that seriously wounded a woman  and mortally wounded a dog in a moving car. A man in the victim car was grazed by a bullet.

The shooting took place at 4 a.m. on Sunday, June 21 on westbound Needham Street east of McHenry Avenue.

The dog was euthanized because of the extent of the wound it suffered.

Modesto Police detectives identified the gunman as Tiante Nathaniel Winn, 21, of Empire. They conducted a warrant search of his home and gathered evidence of his involvement however he wasn’t home and not captured until Ceres Police stopped the car in which he was riding. Police arrested him on the arrest warrant and he was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of attempted murder. He was being held on $3 million bail.
