A Ceres man has been arrested on allegations he committed an armed robbery of a Turlock convenience store.

The suspect, Israel Delahoya, 19, was apprehended in the area of the robbery, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Russ Holeman.

The incident was reported shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday at Matty’s Market at 700 W. Main St. An employee of the store contacted police and said the store had just been robbed by a subject armed with a handgun.

The suspect had entered the store and demanded the money from the register. He took the cash and fled the area on foot, Holeman said.

Officers quickly arrived at the scene and developed a lead from witnesses in the area.

“With the assistance of witnesses, we were able to locate a possible suspect vehicle left running and parked nearby,” Holeman said.

Officers began searching the neighborhood and came across Delahoya, who matched the description of the robber.

Delahoya was positively identified as the robber by the victim and taken into custody. Officers also located stolen money and a BB gun, which had been used in the robbery, Holeman said.

Delahoya was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on a charge of robbery.
