Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputies broke up a cock fighting gathering in south Modesto on Saturday and arrested one man.

At 3:40 p.m. deputies responded to the 2000 block of Poland Road for several men fighting roosters in the backyard of a residence. They found a rooster fighting ring, roosters, and instruments used for rooster fighting. Deputies contacted the resident and during their investigation they found approximately 50 roosters in individual cages and three dead roosters. Animal Control responded and took custody of the roosters.

The resident, Felix Burciago, 42, of Modesto, was arrested for animal cruelty, fighting animals or birds, and possession of implements used to fight roosters.
