Delhi man arrested for stealing bike in Ceres at knifepoint

A 31-year-old Delhi man was arrested shortly after he allegedly stole a bicycle at knifepoint behind the Chevron station at Service and Mitchell roads early Thursday and threatening to kill the victim if he followed.

The crime was reported at 12:14 a.m. Officer Jesus Salinas made contacted with the victim, who by then was behind the AM/PM across the street.

The victim reported that he was riding behind the Chevron station when he encountered Daniel Huerta, 31, of Delhi, walking behind the business. Huerta began speaking to the victim who came to a stop. Huerta produced a knife and pointed it towards the victim and ordered the man off the bicycle. The victim complied and Huerta took took off with the victim chasing. Huerta allegedly told the victim to stop chasing or he would kill. The victim stopped and ran to the AM/PM to call the police.

Huerta was spotted a short time later by Officer Jonathan Blount near Moffett and Don Pedro roads. Huerta was on the stolen bicycle and was positively identified as the suspect. Huerta told police that the bicycle belonged to a friend, that it was recently stolen and that he retrieved it to return it. His alibi was proven to be a lie when the victim produced a store receipt showing that he recently purchased the bicycle.

Huerta faces charges of robbery.
