DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SUSPECT ARRESTED BY SWAT TEAM
A 30-year-old man was taken into custody Monday morning by a Ceres SWAT team after he allegedly threatened his ex-girlfriend with a fireman and barricaded himself in a residence in the 800 block of Willow Lake Way.
The woman reported to Ceres Police at approximately 11:30 p.m. Sunday that Rafael Echeverria showed up at her home and threatened her with a gun, and prevented her from leaving. By the time officers arrived she managed to safely flee the home through a window and asked them to meet her at a nearby location. She stated that she was going to a safe location outside of Ceres while the investigation continued.
At approximately 4:30 a.m. on Monday, the victim returned to her home and found Echeverria hiding inside a room where he allegedly threatened her again with a gun and threatened to kill her. She was able to flee the residence again and call 911.
Ceres police officers, along with assistance from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department and Modesto Police Department, established a perimeter around the home to prevent Echeverria from leaving. Officers learned that Echeverria was wanted for several violent felony crimes, including assault with a deadly weapon involving a firearm, domestic violence, criminal threats, false imprisonment and violation of a domestic violence restraining order.
The Ceres SWAT Team was activated and crisis negotiators attempted to establish communication with Echeverria while occupants of surrounding homes were evacuated for safety reasons. After repeated announcements and tactical operations in and around the residence, SWAT officers located Echeverria in a neighboring yard and took him into custody without incident.
He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on multiple felony charges related to domestic violence, criminal threats, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon involving a firearm, violation of a restraining order and multiple felony warrants.
PASSENGER WITH WARRANT, DRUGS ARRESTED
A 46-year-old Modesto man who was riding in a car stopped for vehicle code violations early Tuesday, May 19 was arrested on drug charges and a felony warrant.
At one minute past midnight, Ceres Police Officer Roger Khuon was patrolling the area of Mitchell and Don Pedro roads when he stopped a Kia Sportage and made contact with the two occupants. A records check found that passenger Raymond Ramirez, 46, of Modesto had a felony warrant for his arrest for a prior assault.
Officer Khuon arrested Ramirez and while searching the area of the car where he was seated, located a small plastic bag containing a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine.
Ramirez was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for the felony warrant and possession of a controlled substance.
CERES MAN FACES DUI CHARGES
Abraham Gonzalez, 21, of Ceres was arrested for drunken driving early Sunday when he was pulled over in the area of Azores Lane and Portugal Drive.
At 12:15 a.m., Ceres Police Officer Tyler Wilson stopped Gonzalez driving a grey-colored Infiniti Q50 for vehicle code violations. It quickly became apparent to the officer that Gonzalez seemed to be intoxicated. A series of field sobriety tests were given which resulted in Gonzalez’s arrest for DUI. Breath samples showed that he was over double the legal limit of alcohol to drive.
Gonzalez was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for DUI.
His arrest was the eighth for DUI from May 19 through May 25.
BICYCLE STOP ENDS IN ARREST OF 50-YEAR-OLD
A 50-year-old man riding a bicycle who was stopped for California Vehicle Code violations Sunday evening was taken to jail after drugs were found on him.
At 7:57 p.m., Ceres Police Officer Chase Maloney was patrolling the area of Herndon Road and Joyce Avenue when he stopped Albert Zell of Modesto. Through a records check, the officer learned that Zell was on searchable probation. Officer Maloney located a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine, as well as six plastic bags of a white crystalline substance suspected of being methamphetamine that weighed over 18 grams.
Zell was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sales and a probation violation.
